This is the fourth and final installment in a 4-Part blog series on how CBD can help with epilepsy. We hope you enjoyed all four weeks to get a comprehensive understanding of epilepsy in general, how CBD can help regulate epilepsy, heal brain injuries, and protect your brain.
Thus far in this series, we have learned that doctors and people suffering from epilepsy are turning towards natural alternatives to treat seizures. We then looked at how CBD can help regulate epilepsy . In our third installment, we learned how CBD can help heal brain injuries, since it is understood that seizures have been shown to damage the brain.
Today we are going to explore how CBD can protect the brain from seizures.
A Revolutionary CBD Drug
To begin, on June 25, 2018, the FDA approved the first CBD drug to treat seizures – Epidiolex. This was monumental for CBD’s credibility in its treatment of health issues.
So how does this drug work and how does it protect the brain?
GW Pharmaceuticals (the company who manufactures the drug), discovered that in a series of laboratory experiments “certain cannabinoids can modulate neurotransmission, can reduce neuro-inflammation, and can affect oxidative stress.”
In simpler words, CBD and Epidiolex can reduce inflammation and physical stress in the brain. This, in turn, lowers a person’s chances of getting a seizure.
Prevent Overactive Neurons
In the same vein, CBD and hemp oil could also play a role in preventing the spread of overactive neurons. By muting these overactive neurons – cutting off their source of communication – you potentially stop the seizure at its source.
While there is still much research to be done, CBD and Epidiolex have shown great promise in protecting the brain against seizures.
We at MTNCBD hope this series has been educational and informative for you! We always look forward to providing you with sound educational and relevant content.
